News; Imo State university students embark on protest to destest IMSU strike

 
The students of Imo State University in the capital city of Imo state, Nigeria embarked on a peaceful demonstration today, the 13th day of May 2015.With every procedural arrangement set for the movement, the student gathered at the school main gate 7:30 am. Observers noticed the presence of the Student Union President, Comrade Nwanna also known as Legacy within the school man gate.

   Proceedings on how to go about the protest was deliberated by the student leader and other student representatives. With little or no agreement emerging from the proceedings, the students representative appeared to be divided. A noticeable person amongst them also referred to as and called ''Elder'' took charge of the proceedings with the emergence of harmony.
 
    We have assembled to go for a peaceful demonstration, there should be no violence. Smoking and any act of misconduct will not be accepted from any student., We have not come to disrupt economic activities, or insult the government and any other body responsible for the industrial action, according to ''Elder'' .
   
     The student commenced the protest  on a peaceful note with their favorite song, popularly referred to as aluta song recited at different  junctions where they sat for 5-6 minutes to stop the traffic
   
     The student continued on this note until they made their presence at the main gate of the government house. At this point, the student recited a couple of their songs and demanded the presence of the governor ,so as to address them. With time well spent at the premises of the state  house, government official came out to address the student. This they refused bluntly and requested that the governor should  come to address them.

     With the presence of the Nigerian Police force who had continuously followed the student  during the protest, the student felt protected not until a police man was ordered to shoot at the students, said an eye witness

      According to an eye witness, a high ranked police officer, ordered a recruit officer to shoot at the students, which he refused to do, until he was told his gun will be off him, which prompted him to shoot upwards.

      The shoot which according to the eye witness was a tear gas caused a dispersal of the student. The student took to their heels, while the police shoot more times to disperse those still gathered.

     The students left and reassembled at the school main gate where they finally listened to ''Elder'' and took their leave.
