Ruth Davidson got engaged to her girlfriend Jen Wilson weeks
after she led the Scottish Conservatives to an historic result at the 5 May
elections.
The Scottish Conservative leader, 37, popped the question to 34-year-old charity worker Wilson while the pair were on holiday in Paris.
"So, I've been away for a few days as I had an
important question to ask. Delighted Jen said yes. Very happy," the MSP
said in a tweet.
Her proposal came after Davidson was hailed by Prime
Minister David Cameron for leading the party to success in the elections north
of the border, making it the second largest party in Scotland after the
Scottish National Party.
When same-sex marriage was passed by the Scottish Parliament
in February 2014, Davidson said the decision made her cry.
"I am not ashamed to say that on returning to my
parliamentary office after the vote, I cried deep sobbing tears of relief and
release and joy and pain and pride and dozens of other emotions all mixed up
together," she wrote for The Herald newspaper. "In truth, I didn't
really know why I was crying – I hadn't expected to – but I couldn't stop for a
full five minutes."
