A major gas pipeline owned by Nigerian Agip Oil Company
(NAOC) located in the Southern Ijaw community
was reportedly attacked on Tuesday evening by the dreaded activists. Agip
alongside Chevron Oil Company have been the most severely affected owing the
activities of the new generation Niger Delta activists.
The recently attacked gas pipeline facility is said to be
one of the major pipeline distribution channels across Nigeria. The pipeline
cut across communities such as Tumor in Bomadi, Delta State through Ogbuasiri located in Ekeremor and also the
frequently attacked Ogbembiri in Southern Ijaw part of Bayelsa State.
Reports coming from the indigenes of Ogbembiri has it that a
group of heavily armed men had stormed the community about 48hours ago while
the security agents where nowhere to be seen.
Also, an oil pipeline located in Brass Local Government Area
of Bayelsa State was also reportedly attacked prior to the attack at Ogbembiri
which has resulted to an oil spillage around the viscinity.
Although no group has claimed responsibility for these
recent attacks, suspicions have it that the dreaded Niger Delta Avengers must
have carried out the attacks having claimed responsibility for similar attacks
carried out earlier.
The Avengers had last
week given a two week ultimatum to the Nigerian government to meet their
demands which include among many others the alleviation of sufferings and
marginalisations being experienced by the people of the region and immediate
release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra and Director
of Radio Biafra/Biafra Television, who is still under incarceration at the hand
of Nigerian government despite previous court rulings ordering for his
unconditional release.
