News: Barrow emerges, Jammeh concedes defeat

The Gambian President concedes defeat after losing the Presidential election. Jammeh having served for 22 years shut down internet services in the country during the polls.

As part of his move to keep the election secret, international calls were not possible which incapacitated foreign observations.

Barrow who is the President-elect gathered 263 515 votes. Jammeh had 212 099 votes while Kande had 102 969 votes. The Chairman of the electoral commission had early said Jammeh would conced defeat if he lost the elections.

Consequent on the earlier announced results, Gambians filled the street to celebrate the victory for the President-elect. Analyst said Yahya Jammeh took a step from former President Goodluck Jonathan who conceded defeat to Rtd Major Gen Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 general elections in Nigeria.
